Small Group Class Descriptions

Our small group classes provide personalized practice in a small group setting.  This means you get the attention you need from the teacher that will allow you maximum progress and support. Progression in our classes is based on understanding repertoire as well as building strength, endurance and mobility.  Unlike other movement  programs, your progress is not linear and will advance as you learn more about your body and how it works.  Our class descriptions are meant as a guide.  Our teachers will determine which class is the best fit for your needs and abilities. 

 

Equipment Based Classes  Joseph Pilates was the master inventor and created over 20 different pieces of apparatus to help different bodies connect with his method and the movements in it.  Our Small Group Equipment Classes have a maximum of 6 participants per teacher so we can provide a personalized learning experience for each participant. 

 

Traditional Reformer ClassesOur traditional Reformer classes are designed for those who have no functional limitations in movement and are not experiencing pain or dysfunction.  The Reformer is one of the key pieces in a Pilates studio that uses springs as resistance to connect the body to the work.

Intro to Reformer

Are you new to Pilates?  Are you looking for a new fitness experience?  This 8 week beginner’s session is designed to introduce you to the Pilates Reformer.  Using springs as resistance, this unique piece of Pilates equipment will help you build strength, increase your flexibility and mobility, improve your posture while connecting you with your core muscles.  This whole body approach to health and wellness will have you moving better and feeling better regardless of age or ability.
This class is a prerequisite for all other traditional Reformer based classes.

Fundamental Reformer

This class is the next step in your Pilates journey. Build on your Reformer skills and knowledge with new repertoire and increased challenges. We’ll advance the program to build your strength and challenge your stability.  Props will be introduced to add more intensity to your experience while improving your muscular connection and alignment.

Focused Reformer

Gain a deeper connection through the addition of more coordinated movements and patterns that require more control.Your Reformer class will be enhanced through the addition of work on the Tower which adds more options for dynamic core control.  Props will be used to increase your ability and enhance your strength.

 

Apparatus Classes- Our studio is the first and only Pilates studio in the Niagara Region to embrace all the work of Joseph Pilates in a group setting.  Join us and reap the benefits of using the varied pieces of apparatus that were created to help you enhance the results of your Pilates work.

Mixed Apparatus  Levels 1 – 3

This class combines the use of the Pilates Reformer, Chair and Tower (Cadillac) to provide you a session that is dynamic and varied so you can build your strength, enhance your mobility and achieve your goal.  Each class will be a unique combination of the exercises on different apparatus so you can intensify your connection and enhance your understanding taking your body to reach new heights.  In order to participate in this class, previous experience on ALL apparatus is required.  Entrance is at the discretion of the teacher. 

Springboard Classes

Bring some zest and vigor to your Pilates class with the Springboard. This unique adaptation of the Pilates Cadillac allows for an active and engaging challenge of strength, flexibility and balance working directly against spring resistance to magnify your concentration, focus and control.  

Therapeutic Reformer Classes
Our therapeutic equipment classes are designed for participants who have functional limitations, are experiencing pain or dysfunction or are working under the guidance of an allied health professional. Private training is strongly encouraged before beginning a group Therapeutic Equipment Class.

Back Care Mixed Apparatus Reformer

Back pain affects 80% of the population at some point in their life.  This program will focus on progressive building of spinal stability and mobility to improve your overall function and keep your back functioning optimally.  Props may be used to support or assist with alignment and connection. Each class will be a unique combination of the movements on different apparatus so you can intensify your connection and enhance your understanding so you improve your movement patterns.  Previous private one on one training or our physiotherapy program is strongly recommended before entering this class.

Actively Aging Reformer

This Reformer based class is the perfect choice for the older adult  who wants to work on and enhance their flexibility, balance and strength in all muscle groups.  Our specialized teachers can  balance the needs and concerns of the mature adult. Props may be used to provide support, assistance or feedback.

Actively Aging – Chair Pilates

A perfect class for the older adult to help meet their health and fitness needs by focusing on posture, balance and stability.  All work is done seated in a chair or standing with support for a safe and effective class. Props are also used to improve connection and support for movements where appropriate.  

 

Mat Based Classes  Our Small Group Mat Based Classes have a maximum of 12  participants per teacher. 

Mat Pilates

The original works of Joseph Pilates were a series of mat based movements taught in flowing sequence.  Our contemporary approach supports all participants with modifications and adaptations to suit all bodies and abilities. Each class provides a variety of options and props to suit all ages and genders.

Intro to Mat Pilates

Our Intro to Mat class is a great option for those new to a Pilates practice. Take your time and don’t assume you are going to work the same muscles you’ve used in other forms of exercise. Mat Pilates is a strengthening and lengthening form of exercise that focuses on your core muscles while also training your arms and legs.  Props may be used for support, to improve alignment or to increase intensity.  This class is suitable for beginners as well as those with experience.

Pilates with Props

Our Mat Based Pilates class uses a variety of props to keep you motivated and excited about the Pilates Mat repertoire of exercises.  Build strength, improve mobility and connect with your core through this series of mat exercises. Our teachers use a tiered approach so you have multiple options available for each movement, allowing you to choose the level of difficulty that is most appropriate for your body.Virtual options are available for this class. Complementary Mat Based Programs

TRX

TRX is a form of suspension training that uses your own body weight as the resistance.  Easily adaptable for all levels of ability, the TRX works multiple joints and muscles simultaneously while developing strength, balance, flexibility and core stability.

TRX/HIIT

Take your cardio and muscular endurance to the next level!  TRX High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a full-body training program using TRX equipment that alternates short, high intensity intervals with longer rest periods that will increase strength and build muscle while burning calories.

Fascinating Fascia

Fascia is the biological fabric that holds us together and weaves like a web between muscles, nerves, organs and skin. Understanding the interplay of fascia is essential to developing stability and movement and is crucial in high performance, recovery from injury and disability, and ever-present in our daily life.  This program will help you move with ease, decrease tension and soreness and enhance muscle strength through flowing, three dimensional movements. Come play with us in this fun and unique movement program that is sure to leave you feeling lighter and looser. 

Booty Barre

A fun, energetic workout that fuses techniques from dance, pilates and yoga that will tone, define and chisel the whole body. Bootybarre is the perfect combination of strength and flexibility with an added cardiovascular element utilizing the barre. We focus on proper biomechanics for a safe and well structured class that can be modified for any fitness level.

 

Yoga – In keeping with our studio philosophy that each participant in class is an individual and needs individualized attention, our yoga classes are designed to suit every body and ability.
